Abstract
CeVO4 prepared via the sol-gel route with a tetragonal (I41/amd) crystal structure was found to act as an ion-storage material. The structure of powders and films having different Ce/V molar ratios was determined using X-ray diffractometry. Cyclic voltammograms of films allowed for distinguishing between the Ce4+/Ce3+ and V5+/V4+ redox changes. In situ ultraviolet/visible spectro-electrochemical measurements confirmed the presence of V5+/V4+ redox changes in tetragonai CeVO4 films. The small (∼0.1 to 0.5 cm2/C) coloration efficiency of CeVO4 films suggests their utilization as counter electrodes with optically passive responses in electrochromic devices.
