Abstract
Electrocochleography and evoked cortical potentials are both used in electric response audiometry. Both of these responses have been recorded for several years so that the authors are in a position to compare them and conclude that electrocochleography is a more useful clinical tool than the evoked response. Electrocochleographic waves are much less variable; they are not affected by sleep or sedatives; they can be recorded close to threshold and their nature, sources and pathways are better known.
