Embracing cultural diversity: A CSCL inspired by an internally persuasive discourse

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The CSCL environment, Interlaced Roots, capitalizes on students' cultural diversity and is aimed at fostering internally persuasive discourse (IPD; Bakhtin, 1981). Such a discourse allows participants to express their individual narratives and to re-examine them in light of the narratives of others, and thereby sustain a dialogic society. A qualitative analysis that focused on the development of students' voices revealed evidence of IPD and learning and shed light on the role that the technology had played in the interaction.
