Abstract

Energy transfer between Ce3+ and Tb3+ in rare earth pentaphosphates was studied versus Ce3+ concentration and temperature. Within this chain-type structure the energy diffusion is very sensitive to atomic substitution and this process is operating via the LnOPOLn links. The energy transfer efficiency is strongly influenced by the effect of temperature on the overlap between the Ce3+ and Tb3+ bands.
