Abstract

Energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tm3+ is reported in borate and phosphate glasses. It was found that the 1D 23H4 blue emission of thulium could be increased manyfold when excited through 4f-5d absorption of Ce3+. It is suggested that the energy transfer process is of multipolar type.
