Abstract

Energy transfer from Ce³⁺ to Tm³⁺ is reported in borate and phosphate glasses. It was found that the ¹D ₂→³H₄ blue emission of thulium could be increased manyfold when excited through 4f-5d absorption of Ce³⁺. It is suggested that the energy transfer process is of multipolar type.
