Abstract
The temporally asymmetric Hebbian (TAH) rule was studied using Fokker-Planck theory. It was found that the behavior of the system depends crucially on how the boundaries on the allowed range of synaptic efficacies are incorporated. A very different behavior was observed with a multiplicative rule where the magnitude of the update decreases as either the upper or lower bounds are approached.
