Abstract

ESR linewidth and signal intensity measurements of AuEr (0.2%, 1%, 3%) dilute alloys have been carried out as a function of temperature in order to resolve previous discrepancies regarding the crystal field splitting. The data analysis indicates a splitting of (16 ± 4) K between the Γ7 ground state and the Γ(1)8 first excited state. No evidence for an additional broadening mechanism associated with Er-Er exchange interactions was observed.
