Estimation of the Internal Stresses in the Surface Layers of BaTiO₃ Crystals by Acoustic Emission Method

Abstract

Mechanic stresses in the surface layers of BaTiO₃ Crystals are considered. Phase transition temperatures are measured by the acoustic emission (AE) technique. The above temperatures are displaced from the Curie point T_C. The displacement values are estimated by means of crystal surface etching. The T_C decrease is observed under external hydrostatic pressure and possesses linear dependence on the pressure. Surface layer etching causes the structure simplifying and the internal stress decrease.
