Abstract

A systematical research for Yersinia enterocolitica by enrichment technics, from March 1978 to January 1982, has allowed us to isolate from 3 200 stool cultures, 140 Yersinia strains. The analysis of the results show a very different carrier frequency between external consultants, hospitalized patients, adults and children. No serotypes strain 0:3 and 0:9 has been isolated from stool cultures, but on the other hand a 0:3 strain has been the cause of a septicemia. Never has the isolation of a non-adapted strain been associated to classical clinical feature of a Y. enterocolitica infection. Nevertheless, one must mention the wide frequency of patients with chronical intestinal disorders amongst Yersinia carriers.
