Abstract

An ABCD reaction representing a general reversible transfer reaction in solution, such as energy transfer (A+B*↔A*+B)2, or atom transfer (A+BC↔AB+C) is introduced. It is also a simplified version of a catalytic or enzymatic reaction of the type E+S↔E+P. Here, the enzyme E is unchanged while a substrate (S) is converted into a product (P). The reversible Michaelis-Menten scheme, E+S↔ES↔E+P, reduces to it for small ligand concentrations.
