Abstract

The exact surface-plasmon dispersion relation for a semi-infinite medium with an abrupt surface and an arbitrary wave-vector and frequency dependent dielectric function ε(q,ω) is obtained. The result is applied to the models with hydrodynamic and Lindhard dielectric functions and the comparison with other theories and the experiment is fulfilled.
