Abstract

1. 1. The sensitivities of various diencephalic nuclei to synchronizing and desynchronizing stimuli were compared. 2. 2. In the cerveau isolé cat synchronizing neurones in the intralaminar thalamus and desynchronizing neurones in the intralaminar thalamus and the mesencephalic reticular formation have similar chronaxies and refractory periods. 3. 3. In the encéphale isolé cat synchronizing neurones in the region of the solitary tract and desynchronizing neurones in the region of the solitary tract and n. reticularis pontis caudalis have similar chronaxies and refractory periods. 4. 4. These findings are discussed and a general model explaining the transition from desynchronized to synchronized EEG and vice versa is suggested.
