Abstract

We use an ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond for implementing two types of quantum heat engines. We experimentally demonstrate: (i) a power increase due to coherence, and (ii) the equivalence of the two engine types at small actions. These constitute the first demonstrations of quantum effects in heat machines.
