Abstract

Apatites from the Mottled Zone complex of Israel were dated by the fission track method. The thermal event which caused the formation of the peculiar, high temperature minerals in this complex occurred 13.6 ∓ 2.0 my ago, i.e. during Late Miocene time. This dating places the thermal event some 50 my after the deposition of the parent sedimentary rocks (of Campanian to Paleocene age).
