Abstract

An oxygen species having an ESR signal at g = 2.008, 2.028 and 2.046 as obtained by N2O adsorption on pretreated Y2O3. This species, identified as O, is reactive in reactions with hydrogen, oxygen, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and ethylene, even at low temperatures. O is formed only on Y2O3 which was pretreated so as to form a high energy donor level. This was accomplished by doping with Eu or irradiation in the UV region in the presence of hydrogen.
