Abstract

Problematic use of the Internet is an umbrella term, now used globally, referring to excessive engagement in online activities known to be associated with marked functional impairment. This term encapsulates a variety of online activities, including: compulsive online buying, online gambling, cybersex, excessive use of online pornography, excessive use of online streaming, excessive use of social media, cyberbullying, and cyberchondria.
