Abstract

Spherical, axial and non-axial quadrupole shapes are investigated within the algebraic interacting boson model. For each shape the hamiltonian is resolved into intrinsic and collective parts, normal modes are identified and intrinsic states are constructed. Special emphasis is paid to new features (e.g. rigid triaxiality and coexisting deformed shapes) that emerge in the presence of three-body interactions.
