Abstract

For N nondegenerate quasi bound states ("resonances") coupled to K continuum channels (N > K), it is shown that the full effective Hamiltonian which describes the dynamics is diagonal in the generalized eigenstates of the rank deficient rate matrix, thereby having N - K stable ("trapping") eigenstates and K promptly decaying ones.
