Abstract

It is suggested that non-monotonic temperature dependence of state-to-state collision rates may result from the occurrences of glories in the velocity dependence of the inelastic cross section. As in the elastic case, these are due to the existence of a minimum (i.e., a well) in the intermolecular potential.
