Grammaticalization in Latin?: Two Case Studies

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The concept of grammaticalization can be broken up into several possible materializations on different planes. Of the many forms that have at one point or another in the history of Latin become consolidated as grammatical tools, two, one pronominal (quiuis, quilubet) and on the syntactic level, the other nominal (-fer, -ger) and on the formational level, are examined each as to their type of process, its ultimate outcome and its diachrony: whether at all, to what extent, under what circumstances, and when these forms underwent a change of status.
