Abstract
The gravothermal collapse of self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) halos and the origin of massive black holes is discussed. The black hole formation is the consequence of relativistic core collapse following the gravothermal catastrophe in SIDM halos. The studies of SIDM through N-body simulations and by a gravothermal approach confirmed that the SIDM halos were consistent with the observations where they exhibited a flat density core.
