N2 - Dermestes maculatus larvae adequately utilize 10-50 per cent dietary casein, and either neutral fat or glucose, for growth, while free fatty acids reduce growth. Glycerol supplementation of carbohydrate-free diets improves growth, while glucose does not. The fatty acid and triglyceride content of larvae is dependent on the dietary composition. Hexokinase increases on high-glucose diets, glucokinase on glucose-supplemented fatty acid diets. Glucose-6-phosphatase is inversely related to the level of glucose in the diet.
