Abstract

Ionic solutions with an attractive short-range pair interactions between the ions were modeled. A quadratic nonlocal term was added to the Poisson-Boltzman (PB) free energy theory to account for the short-range interactions. Solvent effects in a planar electric double layer were studied. Counterion density was found to increase near the charged surfaces and decrease at larger distances.
