Abstract
Literary sources in Arabic about the pre-and early Islamic periods tell us more about Mecca and Medina than they do about any other town in the Arabian Peninsula. However, some evidence about the Yamāma area and its towns survived, partly in connection with the conflict between the young Islamic state and the Ḥanīfa tribe of Yamāma under its leader, Musaylima.
