Abstract

This chapter presents the general concepts and technical aspects of image-based surgery planning. It starts with a brief historical account of image-based surgery planning, its evolution, and its current use today. It then presents a brief overview of the general concepts of image-guided surgical planning and two types of applications: (1) surgery planning for bone fracture surgery in orthopaedic surgery and (2) surgery planning for keyhole neurosurgery and percutaneous ablations. It then concludes with a brief discussion on trends and perspectives in image-guided surgery planning.
