Abstract

A cloud-resolving model was used to study the impact of aerosol on precipitation dynamics by imitating a tropical mesoscale convective system. This cloud-resolving model with explicit bin microphysical scheme was used to study the sensitivity of tropical storms on initial Cloud Condensation nuclei (CCN) concentration. Strong, deep convections with significant ice contents were observed to appear after the shallow convection stage. The results show that stronger storm simulated in dirty air scenario generates large amount of small ice and forms extensive anvil clouds up in the air, as compared to very little ice in clear air simulation.
