Abstract
Summary form only given. It is shown that second harmonic generation (SHG) due to intersubband transition can be obtained in an asymmetrically stepped quantum well structure with long interaction length. The efficiency of SHG is dominated by intersubband absorption and by phase matching near resonance. In order to increase the overall SHG efficiency, the device should operate off resonance.
