Abstract

Commercial K chlorophyllin from three different manufacturers was studied by IR spectroscopy. All samples contained some keto form of chlorophyllin. Chemical analysis showed that they also contain impurities of carboxylic acid salt. The hydration and coordination of the keto and the carboxyl groups was investigated by comparing the spectra obtained in disks of different alkali‐halides. The spectra of the insoluble chlorophyllin salts of Mg, Al, Co and Cu were also studied.
