Abstract
Harold Adam Innis (1894-1952) was a prominent Canadian economic historian and academic leader, who shifted his interest, late in his career, to the history and theory of communications. He is recognized as the central figure in what became known as the Toronto School of communication theory, a communication-technology-oriented and historical-research-based approach to understanding communications.
