Abstract
This reaction can be regarded as a prototype for other reactions occurring on clay minerals, which can be directed into a desired pathway by the choice of interlayer cations. Limonene can direct reactions which proceed through a carbonium ion mechanism or an oxidation reaction, and the choice of interlayer cation can be decisive in controlling which course is followed.-D.F.B.
