Abstract

Since the transitions within the Bi**3** plus ion are of electric dipole character, and those in the Eu**3** plus system are of induced electric dipole, it is reasonable to assume that at donor and acceptor distances present in the glass, the energy transfer is predominantly governed by dipole mechanism.
