Abstract
It is a special honour for me to speak on this occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Anglo-Israel Archaeological Society. For half a century, the society has continued its mission to support research and bringing the news of archaeology in Israel to the British audience. Its journal, recently renamed Strata, has become a significant source of information in our field of research. I wish the Society well in the continuation of its important mission and activities. I was asked to summarise today in 50 minutes the current state of research and achievements of Israeli archaeology. This is an almost impossible task due to the wide scope of the subject. I will thus limit myself to short surveys to several key Issues.
