Abstract

The three Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters for erbium(III) are given in 17 different environments. The Ω₂ parameter is strongly affected by covalent chemical bonding. In contrast, the Ω₆ parameter is related to the rigidity of the medium in which the ions are situated.
