Abstract
In the reported investigation, the kinetics of the intermediates in unterminated polymerization reactions were studied. It was found that in a first-order initiation (A) all intermediates accumulate monotonically. In a second-order initiation (B) the first intermediates pass through a maximum, whereas the later ones strictly accumulate. An initiator-started polymerization can follow course A or course B, depending on the initial ratio of the concentrations of the initiator and monomer.
