Abstract
For Germany, the memory of the Holocaust raises issues in very specific ways. This article describes the two ways in which the country has chosen to pass on the memory: conservation in museums on the one hand, in other words fixing and codifying historical events and their consequences for the present; on the other hand, bringing out actual experiences of those events, or in other words, staging historical fact through memorials and especially the visual media.
