Abstract

F. tularensis was isolated for the first time in France, from prairie and wood voles (Microtus arvalis and Apodemus sylvaticus). Experimental inoculation of F. tularensis to these species by the percutaneous, the subcutaneous and the oral routes (cannibalism) showed their high sensitivity to the disease. These wild rodents, although they cannot be considered as a « reservoir, might be able to insure a permanent circulation of F. tularensis in a natural focus.
