Abstract
In Germany a new DIN-Standard for the calculation of the load capacity of bevel gears has been developed. This was introduced to ISO/TC 60 as a proposal for an International Standard. The calculation system contains the calculation of tooth root strength, pitting and scuffing load resistance. The bevel gears are approximated by virtuell cylindrical gears. The principle is explained. The specific properties of bevel gears hereby are considered by special influence factors. The main advantage of this procedure is that the extensive knowledge and experience available for cylindrical gears (e. g. endurance strength numbers) can be transfered from spur and helical gears to bevel gears. To check the correspondence of the calculation results obtained by the new method with field experience, a number of comparative calculations have been performed. These data are presented.
