Magnetic, structural, and Mössbauer effect study of MnGd2S4

Abstract

The compound MnGd2S4 has the cubic Th3P4 structure with a0 = 8.360 Å and with an x parameter equal to 0.070 ± 0.003. Magnetic susceptibility shows no magnetic order to liquid He temperature and a temperature dependence that is the simple sum of the theoretical contributions for Mn2+ and Gd3+ ions. Similar results were obtained from Mössbauer studies.
