Abstract

High titers of antibodies to Legionella pneumophila in a patient affected with Leptospirosis and knowledge of some puzzling literature reports led the authors to investigate 42 sera containing high titers of antibodies to Leptospira. By a microagglutination technique, 19% had high titers of antibodies to L. pneumophila serogroup 1 ( 1/40). Though possible serological overlaps because of antigenic relationship between the two bacteria looks unlikely, the authors rather favor an epidemiological relationship between L. pneumophila and Leptospira which share the same ecological niche.
