Abstract

Although the consulting market first emerged in the US and the UK, management consultancy has already reached its peak in emerging and developing economies around the world. This article draws on empirical studies of management in these economies in order to provide a better understanding of this field. It studies the ideas and theoretical insights from postcolonial theory and suggests new theoretical directions for understanding the encounters between local clients and foreign consultancies in third world contexts. This article determines that foreign consultancy in other countries - besides the US and the UK - should be recognized as a solid manifestation of the abstract idea of the third space of in-between.
