Abstract
The effect of morphine on neuroblastoma x glioma hybrid cells is not limited to the inhibition of adenylate cyclase activity. It is demonstrated that in morphine-treated cells there is a marked reduction in the activity of both cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) in response to stimulation by PGE1. The effect of morphine is to block a cascade of events which may be crucial for the normal biochemical processes in these cells.
