N2 - The relative importance of the different possible fragmentation pathways in multiphoton ionization-fragmentation is determined by a maximum entropy formalism. Absorption by fragment ions is allowed for, and leads to significantly lower temperatures. Differences between electron impact and laser-induced mass spectra are possibly due to the absence of secondary absorption in the former.
