Abstract
The multiphoton ionization and two-photon excited fluorescence action spectra of nitric oxide are compared. At low fluence the two spectra differ when more than three photons are required for ionization. This may be due to the presence of several energy acquisition routes, providing new spectroscopic information on intermediate slates.
