Abstract

LIGHT absorption by the rhodopsin molecule initiates the visual process1-3. The absorption of light starts a series of consecutive reactions in which the system passes through a number of intermediates leading to the final products, opsin and all-trans retinal. Stages in the bleaching of rhodopsin are well known and believed to be associated with the electrical events in the retina.
