Abstract

Ronen et al. [Nucl. Sci. & Eng. (USA), vol.60, p.97 (1976)] compared the average neutron spectra in noncritical homogeneous δ-plutonium spheres, calculated in the α-, γ-, or k-formulation. The validity of an argument concerning the behavior of the α-spectra was questioned by Lewins, leading to a more rigorous argument restricted to this point by Ronen et al. [ibid., vol.62, p.80 (1977)]. A new analysis of the results is proposed in this paper.
