Abstract

Initial results are presented of an ongoing study to predict petiole N content in potatoes using spectral data and hyperspectral imaging. Five N fertilization treatments were conducted in a potato field in Israel. Spectral reflectance of single leaves and hyperspectral images captured from 20m above the crop were collected on four days in the spring of 2006. The TCARI index was calculated for spectral and hyperspectral data. High correlations were found between TCARI and petiole N content. This is a first stage in N content estimation and mapping in potato fields for variable rate fertilization.
