Abstract

Data on the level spectra of hypernuclei, obtained from (+,K+) and (K-,-) reaction studies, are analyzed to obtain a density-dependent and nonlocal -nucleus potential. We relate our results to previous work which bears on the origin of the density dependence and nonlocality of the -nucleus potential. We argue that the distinguishable particle provides one of the best examples of single-particle shell structure in nuclear physics.
