Abstract

In previous papers by the authors a numerical model of the nonlinear interaction between convection and an accelerating horizontal flow in the boundary layer was developed. The present paper constitutes a further development of this model: the Coriolis force and the dependence of the turbulent exchange on the stratification conditions and convection intensity are taken into account. The numerical solutions well describe some basic features of the atmospheric boundary layer structure in the trade-wind zone, in particular, the mixed layer bounded from above by a temperature inversion. It is shown that the occurrence of convection results in an ageostrophic departure of the flow toward the pressure minimum.
