Abstract
An analysis is made of the parameters figuring in the seasonal potential of tropical cyclone genesis, taking into account the role of vertical wind shear and ventilation, the role of the thermal potential of the ocean, and the role of humidity in the middle troposphere. The determination of the seasonal frequency of tropical cyclone genesis by Gray's method and on the basis of a refined criterion is discussed. 13 refs.
